Chatterboxes meets on a Friday morning in the Parrs Wood church hall
between 10.00am and 12.00 noon during term time. The group is run entirely by Parrs Wood members. Chatterboxes is for children
under five; though most children are under three and a half. Up to twenty five children attend each week accompanied by either
mum or dad, grandparent, foster parent or childminder. A charge of £1 is made per adult with up to 2 children to
cover refreshments and activity costs. We are continually asked why we can keep this price so low. Our response is always
that it is because the church sees this as an important part of its work for the community and is therefore happy to subsidise
it by not charging a rental for the premises and that the organisers come along on a voluntary basis. Activities include playing
with toys, play dough and jigsaws. We then have refreshments followed by craft activities and a singing time. We also have
a Christmas party each year at which Father Christmas makes an appearance.
Sew & Chat
Sew & Chat meets fortnightly at Burnage church on Thursdays at 2.30pm
to enjoy each others' company and knit scarves for the shoeboxes the church sends at Christmas. We make Manchester Weather
Worms, if you don't own one of our worms, shame on you. They make a fun gift for birthdays, weddings and get wells. In
the lavender season the perfume fills the air, as we strip the flowers from the stems and we get covered along with the tables
and floor as we fill lavender bags ready for the Bazaar. During these and other actives we enjoy a good cup of tea, while
putting the world to rights! If you are passing church on a Thursday do pop in for a cuppa and a chat, you will be made most
2nd Burnage Girl Guides
